Muscle Spasms
A muscle spasm or muscle cramp is a painful, involuntary muscle contraction that occurs suddenly and can be temporarily debilitating. While dietary factors such as dehyrdration, low potassium, low sodium levels and inadequate carbohydrate intake are thought to have some impact, there is growing evidence supporting the idea of nerve irritation in either the skeletal muscles or more centrally in the spine.
Regular muscle stretching, correction of muscle imbalance, posture and adequate conditioning for the activity are all thought to reduce the chances of suffering from muscle spasms.
